What We Do

We grow the endemic lake Tanganyika tilapia, for local resale. We do this to lessen the impact on the lake fish and offer an alternative protein source. We also train Tanzanians who are interested in establishing their own fish farms in the future.

This species of tilapia is well-suited to the lake's unique ecosystem, and by farming it sustainably, we can help alleviate pressure on wild fish populations. Additionally, Tanganyika tilapia is a nutritious and delicious fish that can be prepared in a variety of ways, making it a versatile ingredient for local cuisine. By promoting the cultivation and consumption of this fish, we hope to support both the health and livelihoods of the communities around Lake Tanganyika.

Our Mission

Our goal is to set up a minimum of one fish farm annually within our local vicinity. We plan to provide support in the form of initial training, logistical guidance, and the provision of fingerlings and food to aid in the establishment of these fish farms.

What We’ve Achieved

  • With Grants from Repic, Switzerland, we have a fully-automated solar pump, to supply fresh water to our ponds

  • We have constructed 2 brooding stock and 2 grow-out ponds, fully lined and operational, in total we have 3,400 square metres of ponds in total

  • We have a fully operational, solar-powered feed production line. By buying inputs from local farmers, we manufacture of own fish food

  • We have a solar-operated hatchery with output potential of 2 million fingerlings a year

  • We have a qualified degreed Bsc farm manager

  • We have already sold over 2,5 tonnes of fish into the local market

  • This means we have already “saved” 2,5 tonnes of lake fish

  • We have a qualified team who can assist in training for new business owners wanting to enter the industry
